Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
  • Food coloring (black, orange, and purple)
  • Halloween-themed sprinkles
  • Edible glitter (optional)
  • Fondant decorations or Halloween candy

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter until creamy, then gradually add the dry mixture.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk to the butter mixture, and beat until smooth.
  5. Fill the cupcake liners about two-thirds full with batter.
  6. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cupcakes in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.
  8. Prepare the frosting by beating the softened butter and gradually adding the powdered sugar until combined.
  9. Color the frosting by dividing it into bowls and adding food coloring.
  10. Decorate the cupcakes with frosting and Halloween-themed sprinkles.

For best results, use room temperature ingredients and avoid overmixing. Store frosted cupcakes in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
