Colorful and festive cookies perfect for Halloween, easy to prepare and customizable for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (for designs)
  • Sprinkles or other decorations (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  2. Cream butter and sugar: In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Incorporate egg and vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well blended with the butter-sugar mixture.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Color the dough: Divide the dough into portions and add food coloring to each, mixing until you reach your desired shade.
  6. Shape the dough: Shape the colored dough into logs, about 1-2 inches in diameter. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while the dough is chilling.
  8. Slice the cookies: Remove logs from the refrigerator, slice into rounds about 1/4 inch thick, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Monitor to prevent overbaking.
  10. Cool and decorate: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Decorate while slightly warm.

Notes

Ensure that the butter and egg are at room temperature for better mixing. Chill the dough thoroughly for best results.
