Delicious vanilla-flavored cookies, perfect for decorating with royal icing and celebrating Halloween.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Royal icing (prepared separately for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure an even bake.
  2. Mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder until well combined.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the creamed mixture until well combined.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
  8. Cool the cookies on wire racks before decorating.
  9. Decorate the cooled cookies with royal icing in fun Halloween shapes.

Notes

Ensure flour is spooned and leveled for accurate measuring. Use softened butter for a smooth dough. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating to prevent melting the icing.
