Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1/2 teaspoon vinegar)
1 large egg
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
Black food coloring (for spider decoration)
Pretzel sticks (for spider legs)
Candy eyes (for spider eyes)
Instructions
Prepare the donut mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Mix the wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until smooth.
Combine the ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan with cooking spray.
Fill the donut pan: Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
Bake the donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Make the icing: In a bowl, combine powdered sugar and milk and mix until smooth. Add black food coloring to achieve your desired shade.
Decorate the donuts: Dip the tops of the cooled donuts in the icing, then place on a serving platter. Use the pretzel sticks to form spider legs and attach candy eyes to complete the spooky look.
Serve and enjoy: Serve your Spider Donuts at your Halloween party and watch them disappear!
Notes
Don’t overmix and let the donuts cool completely before decorating.
