A healthier twist on a classic favorite, Oven-Baked Chicken Parmesan combines tender chicken, marinara sauce, and gooey cheese, baked to perfection for a comforting family meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (use panko for extra crispiness)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season them on both sides with salt and pepper.
  3. In three shallow bowls, set up your breading station. In the first bowl, add flour. In the second bowl, whisk the eggs. In the third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off excess. Next, dip in the egg, ensuring they are fully coated. Finally, press the chicken into the breadcrumb mixture, coating all sides well.
  5. Place the breaded chicken on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. Remove the chicken from the oven. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, pat the chicken dry before breading for crispiness. Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
