Candy apples are a delightful treat that evoke childhood memories, making them perfect for fall festivities. They are fun to make and can easily be customized with different flavors and colors.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • A few drops of food coloring (optional)
  • 6-8 sturdy wooden sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples by washing and drying them thoroughly and inserting a wooden stick into each apple.
  2. Mix the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan until combined.
  3. Cook the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a hard crack stage (about 300°F or 150°C), using a candy thermometer.
  4. Add food coloring to the mixture if desired, stirring gently.
  5. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat evenly.
  6. Cool the dipped apples on parchment paper until the coating hardens.
  7. Enjoy your homemade candy apples with family or friends!

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for best results and avoid stirring the mixture once it starts to boil to prevent crystallization.
