A comforting and hearty dish combining tenderized beef steak with a crispy coating and rich sausage gravy, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef steak (round or tenderized)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Onion powder, to taste
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 pound sausage
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the steak: Tenderize the beef steak if using round steak. Season both sides generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let it rest for about 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Set up the breading station: In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and eggs until well combined.
  3. Coat the steak: Dip each piece of steak into the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, transfer it to the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess flour and set aside.
  4. Fry the steak: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom. Once hot, carefully add the coated steak. Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain it on paper towels.
  5. Make the gravy: In the same skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for about a minute. Gradually add the milk, whisking until smooth. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Serve: Place the fried steak on a plate and generously top it with the sausage gravy.

Notes

Use a meat mallet to tenderize tougher cuts effectively. Allow the oil to heat properly before frying for a perfect golden crust.
