A spooky and delightful Halloween cake that combines rich chocolate flavor with creative decorations, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Buttercream frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Fondant (black, orange, green)
  • Candy decorations (gummy worms, candy eyes)
  • Graham crackers (for the roof)
  • Chocolate sprinkles (for extras)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until just combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
  6. Once the cakes have cooled, layer and frost them with buttercream frosting.
  7. Shape the fondant to create decorations, like windows and doors, to resemble a haunted house.
  8. Use graham crackers to create the roof and decorate with candy treats for a spooky effect.
  9. Slice and serve your haunted house cake at your Halloween celebration, and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer chocolate flavor, consider adding espresso powder to the batter. Make sure to store leftovers properly to maintain freshness.
